Happy New Year’s everyone! I’m starting off by saying, this year won’t have the same theme as previous years. No “new year new me!! #SLAY2020” instead, 2020 will be a year of nothing but growth and prosperity! I’ve never been the type to make the famous New Year’s Resolution, I didn’t believe in them, I believed that it shouldn’t have to take the start of a new year to chase your dreams and achieve your goals, it should be a daily obsession, not a start date for what now feels like a ‘job’. Goals were logical and resolutions were temporary in my mind. Until today, January 1, 2020.

I picked up my book for the first time, in what seems like a lifetime. I haven’t been feeling like myself lately, It might’ve just been the holidays but I needed a refresh. I picked up, “Everything’s figureoutable” by Marie Forleo, a book in which I started about a month ago, and for you all that know me, not finishing a book in a month is UNHEARD of, I needed help ASAP! Also, you need to seek help immediately if you haven’t picked up Marie Forleo’s book!

Backstory before I start: When I started this journey, I wouldn’t take the self exercises seriously and I would just mentally answer the questions and not write them down and look where that got me! Right back where I started. When I started this book, I told myself no more of the BS, I’m going to DO THE WORK!

I picked it back up and I had left off on an insight to action challenge, upon skimming the assignment I could see why. The first task was to write down an instance that you believed that you didn’t have the time or resources to make something happen, yet you figured it out anyways. I’ll use one of mine for an example, I had a significant amount of debt holding my credit score down, I never thought I would be able to make enough money and still be able to live a sustainable life. Well was I WRONG! I had this dream that I would eliminate my massive debt and I FIGURED IT OUT! I started living below my means, cutting out unnecessary expenses, focusing harder on me leveling up in career to be able to afford debt payments and I created a different level of self-control when I came to money. Live on what you need, not what you want.

The next question was, what’s the most important goal you’re ready to solve? I wrote a laundry list from, speaking affirmations of love to myself daily, to learning sign language. Then I had to center in on one goal only, the one that when I read it, gave me butterflies, an increased heart rate, tightening in my chest, all signs of fear, fear of failing. I know what you’re thinking, why would you take those signs and interrupt them as going in the right direction? Well in Maire’s AMAZING book she breaks down what fear really is doing.

Fear is healthy! One of my biggest fears was that I was going to spend my entire life living in debt, because of that debt I wouldn’t be able to get a car, apartment, food etc. Feeling that fear gave me the kick in my ass that I needed to start planning and taking action to better my finances. I allowed myself to FEEL the fear in a positive way.

While I was completing the activities, I came to the portion where I needed to act on one of my daily goals right then and one of mine was to write a blog post at least 2x’s a week, (hence the blog post! See it’s already working!). 

I knew I wanted to write about goals and how they are more relevant than resolutions, so I started by looking up the actual definitions of both.

Goals: The end toward which effort is directed

Resolution: Something that is resolved (Made a mend with my ways)

                        Resolve: To deal with successfully

It all fell into place before my eyes. Both were as equally as important, and you needed to utilize both simultaneously. I like to call it, “RGP”. You need to acknowledge something that needs resolved, a goal to direct your effort towards, and I added a third, progress. The definition of progress is to move forward and succeed.  

With the help I got from Marie’s insight to action challenge, I choose something that I wanted to resolve, Created SMART goals, and found a way to track my progress that’s tailored to my lifestyle and my love language. 

Through the fear of letting my past actions define my actions in the present, I have started my RGP journey and I am looking forward to sharing all of my FAILs, (faithful attempt in learning), and triumphs!
